Dog Friendly Days Out
🐶 Paws-itively Perfect Dog-Friendly Days Out in Stonehaven 🐶
Hello from Kelly (and a big woof from Willow and Raven too!)
Here at Dalriada Luxury Lodges, we know that holidays are just better when your four-legged friend can come too. That’s why we’re proud to welcome dogs in six of our eight lodges — they deserve five-star treatment just as much as you do! Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or just enjoy a gentle stroll with a coffee in hand (and biscuit in paw), there’s no shortage of wag-worthy things to do right here on the coast.
Here’s our guide to some of the best dog-friendly days out in and around Stonehaven.
🐾 Walkies with a View
The Clifftop Path to Dunnottar Castle - Start your morning with a sniff-tacular coastal walk straight from your lodge. Follow the path along the cliffs to the dramatic ruins of Dunnottar Castle — the views are so stunning, even your dog might pause to take them in. Bring a lead, a camera, and some treats for a mid-hike picnic!
Stonehaven Beach Strolls - The beach is just a paw’s stretch away and ideal for sandy zoomies and shallow paddles. At low tide, there’s plenty of space for games of fetch and friendly doggy hellos. Don’t forget to stop for an ice cream at Aunty Betty’s where as well as the human range of ice creams, sorbets and hot drinks, they even have plenty of doggy cones and treats.
Harbour Sniffs & Seaside Snacks - Wander round the picturesque harbour and treat yourself to a harbourside lunch. The Ship Inn and The Marine Hotel both have dog-friendly outdoor seating (and staff who might just sneak your pooch a treat if they're charming enough). Dogs are also very welcome at The Cool Gourmet in the High Street.
Open-Air Doggy Paddle - Stonehaven’s famous Open Air Pool isn’t for pups, but right next door is a brilliant grassy area for a runabout while you enjoy a takeaway coffee or join your humans for a picnic. Willow and Raven give the shady benches here four paws up!
🐾 Forests, Fields and Fetch
Fetteresso Forest is a bit of a hidden gem — miles of trails, trees to explore, and streams to splash in. There are short loops and longer hikes, so you can tailor your walk to your energy levels (or your dog’s tail wag-o-meter).
Sniff out the Scents of the Market - If you’re here on a Stonehaven Farmers’ Market weekend (first Saturday of the month), take a leisurely stroll into town and browse the stalls. You’ll often find homemade dog treats, and it’s a lovely way to soak up the local atmosphere.
Pampered Pup at Dalriada - After a busy day of adventure, our lodges offer the ultimate chill-out spot for dogs and humans alike. Your private patio is perfect for an evening snooze in the sea breeze. Don’t forget, we’re happy to recommend local dog walkers, pet shops, and even a groomer if your pup needs a little post-beach sprucing up!
We believe no family member should be left behind — especially the ones with wagging tails. If there’s anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable for you and your dog, just give us a bark (or, you know, send an email!).
Warmest wishes (and belly rubs),
Kelly, Willow & Raven
