On Your Bike

Get on your bike...there are so many ways to explore Stonehaven and Aberdeenshire but we think getting on your bike is one of the best. It’s healthy, fun and environmentally friendly and the Dalriada team will always make cyclists feel welcome.

We know that it can be hard knowing what to pack and what you can fit in/on your car when it comes to going away on holiday but we have a solution for those who don’t have their own bikes or don’t have room for them.

We've teamed up our local guide, Mike from Macdui Bike Adventures, who will be able to pick a perfect route for your group and make the most of your time during the ride, picking the best spots for you to visit. Mike is an experienced, British Cycling Mountain Bike Guide and Coach. Macdui Bike Adventures will provide you with bikes and helmets at the lodges, or the start of your ride, at a time that suits you. Their bikes are modern, high specification mountain bikes. They have suspension forks and rear suspension, dropper seat posts, low gear ratios and off-road tyres perfect for the terrain we will cover.

Scotland is a world renown destination for mountain biking, and the north east of Scotland is its secret spot. There are single track trails that thread their way through the forest, glens and up on to moorland. There is a wide range of terrain and plenty to see, from a lowland trip along the coast, the river Dee and then up on to the high ground with a view of the Cairngorm Munros. The rides take in the cultural history and preserved buildings on the highland estates and the wildlife in the ancient forests.

Family Ride

They will set up the bikes for you, check equipment, give you some riding advice and then head out on to the trail.  Every route is curated to suit your family and designed to match your abilities. You do need to be able to ride a bike, but you do not need any experience and definitely do not need to be a mountain biker. The pace is family-friendly, and will last up to 3 hours. It is recommended that all riders are over 11 years old, and over 140cm tall. But please ask if the ride can be adapted for younger riders.

Glen and Moorland Explorer Ride

A mountain bike is the perfect way to explore the glens and moorland of the eastern highlands and the Cairngorms National Park.  Starting from the lodges, or nearby, your guide will lead you on to high moorland with views to the Munros of the high Cairngorms, and then descend flowing single-track trails into the river valleys. You will enjoy the classic iconic Aberdeenshire view from the mountains to the sea.

To enjoy this ride, you need to be comfortable spending a long morning in the hills. You don’t need any experience and don’t need to be a mountain biker, but you will need to be active, exercising around three times a week, and may be a keen road biker or runner. Rides last up to 3 hours.
